Distinguished Lehrman Fellow at N-YHS Lecture
Featuring: Andrew Roberts, General David H. Petraeus (U.S. Army, Retired)
Winston Churchill had an extraordinary capacity for friendship, as well as extraordinary friends, of several of whom his wife, Clementine, profoundly disapproved. Yet how can genuine friendship exist at the apex of politics, and what happened when his friends let Churchill down during World War II? Did Churchill choose his friends with politics in mind, and what role did they play in making him prime minister?
Andrew Roberts is Roger and Martha Mertz Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, Distinguished Lehrman Fellow at the New-York Historical Society, and the author of the international bestseller Churchill: Walking with Destiny.
General David H. Petraeus (U.S. Army, Retired) (moderator) commanded coalition forces during the Surges in both Iraq and Afghanistan and served as director of the CIA. He is now partner in the global investment firm KKR and chairman of the KKR Global Institute.
